DIY for Boredom

Hey Guys,

So I've had this whole week and a couple days off for winter vacation, I'm really bored. So I've been making clothes throughout the whole week, while watching "the best show ever created" Ugly Betty. This skirt was made two days ago, it's a simple knee length circle skirt.

p.s please excuse my jazz hands.

Look #4

Hey Guys,

Today's Outfit is inspired by Comfort, it reminds me of those days when I wan't to look cute, but I don't feel like it. It's a simple outfit, that is stylish yet extremely comfy! I really love it because this outfit can easily be turned dressy. I was gifted this sweater from my father. While the skirt is an undershirt camisole from Forever 21. You'll see that I use camisole's all the time in my outfits, because it's a win for everyone when you get an undershirt and a skirt as one. For my casual look I used a random scarf, and boots that I bought from Marshall's. For the night outfit, I switched a couple of minor things. Because of the size of the sweater, and the outfit's casual manner I rolled the sleeves up for the dressy look. Rolled up sleeves gives a cleaner and more professional look ...it show's that your ready to work. The belt was from Old Navy while the shoes I bought at Mandees for $5. I'm pretty sure, currently you wouldn't be able to find this price at Mandees. However, I got these shoes when they were on sale for $19.99, I was eyeing them for the longest time until everything under $20 was $5. Originally these heels were $39.99, so I guess I've learned my lesson that waiting isn't that bad.

Vintage Prom...

Hey Guys,

My prom search continues and it's kind of stalling. As in I haven't actually tried on one dress yet, nor, been to a dress boutique. Technically I have a couple months left to figure out what I want to wear, but in the back of my head I'm thinking "I really need to find a dress!". Then it hit me....Why can't I wear one of the dresses I already own. I mean nobody at School, would know that I've had it for a couple of years or that I wore it in my cousins wedding or even that I got it in a thrift shop. So I challenge the whole Class of 2014 to consider some of the dresses you already own or just hit the local thrift shop and see what you'll find. The first dress below, was gifted to me from somebody from my church. She saw it in a Salvation Army and at the price of $25 she bought it for me. The second dress, I bought from a thrift shop or thrift shop dealer (It's been so long I don't even remember). However, I know that I bought it for about $30. Obviously, these dresses needed a good cleaning and tender, love and care. But the feeling of looking fabulously vintage with out breaking your weekly Chinese food budget, feels really good!

Winter Woes...

Hello Guys,

I hope winter is treating you better than it is me right now. After four school closing days, one school delay, and almost four feet of snow. I think its appropriate to say, I really miss summer. I miss hanging out in the city, meeting new people, going to the beach, and most importantly yard sale hunting. I found some really cool things including the coat below. My mom and I, were driving down the highway in rural Hudson County searching for random yard sales. Where we found this beautiful coat for only $10, of course, it needed a good cleaning. But After a couple rounds of rubbing, steaming, and dry cleaning it's one thing that's keeping me warm this winter.

I miss fall.....

Hey Guys,

I love fall, I love the falling leaves, home-made pumpkin spice ice-cream, the weather, my birthday in september, going back to school, and did I mention to tell you that I love fall? I wore this outfit last fall, and It basically expresses my eccentric look. It isn't every day when I decide to wear a striped poor boy hat, with leg warmers. lol. However, this poor boy is quite special to me it's a hat that my grandfather gave my dad, and now I'm rocking it. The leg warmers don't have a cute story, but their really appreciated during fall and winter. I got my wool skirt from a local thrift shop, my shirt from Tommy Hilfiger, and my cardigan from Nordstrom. Overall, this outfit is perfect for fashionable comfort.

Shopping in my Closet

Howdy,

I'm not really sure if, trying on old clothes, as in the flower girl dress you wore in somebody's wedding when you were 12, is a normal thing. All I know is that shopping in my closet has become a new hobby of mine. You see, I found this dress in the back of my guest rooms closet. Honestly when I first got it six years ago, it was nothing more than another tacky bridesmaid dress. I despised it's salmon color, and obsessive amount of tulle hidden underneath. However,  as the years have gone by with the dress slowly becoming a  forgotten memory. It took a lot of fashion disasters, magazines, runway shows and thrift stores for me to fully appreciate it's worth. Honestly, I'm quite happy that I "re-bought" it from my closet because it's vintage cut and style is absolutely beautiful. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that it doesn't hurt to look through your old tacky clothes, because you'll never know what secret treasures you've left neglected.

Prom, is that you?

Hello Friends,

I used to think that prom season started at least two months before prom. But after the realization that a quarter of the girls in my grade have already bought or considered their dresses. I knew It was that time of year again. It's funny because to the average non-apostolic girl they worry about choosing the right dress early so that nobody steals it, however, we know that our prom shopping experience is way different. Trust me although, cap and long sleeve gowns are coming back in style, the chances of someone stealing my dress is little to none. lol. No one wan't to look bad at prom, and I definitely don't want to wear a gown that I don't feel beautiful in, especially if I have to compromise my beliefs. You'd think New York would at least have one decent store that doesn't sell "tacky mother of the bride" prom dresses, I guess not because I haven't found one yet. Most likely I will be buying my prom dress online if it doesn't get made, and as of now I think it's coming from over the ocean!  Today I will only be showing BLACK prom dresses, made from the same company Virgos Lounge.  Based out of London, Virgos Lounge has a unique Bollywood/African style that exhibits modesty. They have tons of short or long, vintage or modern, long sleeves or cap sleeves that can make any girl happy.

Look #1

#Look1
Hey Guys,

Happy February 1st, Ground Hogs Day, Black History Month, and most importantly Saturday!! Today was a long day however, it was quite productive (i.e three hour long youth committee meeting). Today's look is "ready go" , I recommend it for those days when you can't decide if you wan't to be dressy or casual. I could easily wear this outfit to a proper event, by throwing on a casual jacket. Outfit Details:
